Arnfield, RAF Biggin Hill, England, Battle of Britain, August 1940, #AA39204A Sgt S.J.Arnfield (New Zealand) served at Biggin Hill and destroyed one aircraft before the Battle of Britain and two Bf 109E'S on the 18th of August 1940. On the 24th August 1940, at 08:50hrs, Arnfield was shot down by a Bf109 of JG51 off Ramsgate. He bailed out and broke an ankle on landing, ending his part in the Battle. He was admitted to Victoria Hospital, Deal. Sgt S.J. Arnfield was awarded the D.F.C. on the 30th June, 1944.

Pegge finished with eight confirmed kills, one probable and three damaged and went on to command 610 squadron in 1941.

Hamlyn DFM, who was also known as ‘The Pied Piper of Harrogate’ and became the RAF’s first ‘Ace in a Day’ of World War Two. He joined 610 squadron on the 6th June 1940. Hamlyn downed two enemy aircraft before the 24th August, but on this day he destroyed a Ju88 and four Bf109s to become an ‘Ace in a Day’. Hamlyn then destroyed Bf109s on the 26th, 27th, 28th and 30th Aug. He was awarded the D.F.M. on the 13th September 1940 and the A.F.C. on the 1st January 1943. He rose to the rank of Wing Commander and survived the war but sadly died on 7th May 1991.

This line features static pre-assembled, pre-painted models made of both diecast and plastic. Each item is fully detailed and historically accurate. The Korean War was fought between 25 June 1950 and 27 July 1953, when a shaky ceasefire was signed. This bloody conflagration came hot on the heels of WWII, and it essentially pitted Western countries against communism. Unsurprisingly, the USA employed equipment that dated back to WWII usage. One such ?legacy? tank commonly employed during the Korean War was the M4A3E8 Sherman, often referred to as "Easy Eight" thanks to its E8 nomenclature. It was distinguished by its Horizontal Volute Spring System (HVSS) and wider tracks. The stronger suspension allowed thicker armor, and it was also armed with a long-barreled 76mm M1A1 gun. The M4A3E8 entered combat in December 1944, and there were still plenty around to fight North Korean and Chinese forces more than five years later. Just such an M4A3E8(76mm) tank is depicted in Dragon Armor?s latest 1/72 release. The actual tank is an example from the 89th Tank Battalion fighting near the Han River in 1951. This battalion, part of the 25th Infantry Division, was activated in Korea in August 1950. It participated in ten campaigns during the Korean War. Their 567 engine, in use for over 20 years, had reached it's peak at 2.500 horsepower in a turbocharged 16-cylinder version. EMD released a new 645 engine in 1966. The most powerful locomotive using this series of engine was the SD45, powered by a 20-cylinder turbocharged 645E engine producing 3600 horsepower. Orders from railroads all over the country, especially western roads, poured in. Great Northern received the first one off the production line and Santa Fe took delivery of a 90-unit order the first year. At the same time Santa Fe was looking to replace it's aging fleet of passenger locomotives. They wanted something more stylish than a freight hood unit with a steam generator for thier famous Super Chief train. EMD had already extended the SD45 frame and added a steam generator to the rear creating the SDP45. They responded to Santa Fe's request by adding a cowl body to the SDP45 thus creating the FP45. Santa Fe took delivery of the first nine FP45's in December of 1967. Numbered 100-108, they were painted in the red and silver warbonnet passenger scheme with black Roman-style Santa Fe lettering on the sides. The cowl offered a cleaner engine compartment and internal walkways, both of which would lead to production of the F45, a regular SD45 with the cowl. Santa Fe acquired forty F45's in 1968, numbered 1900-1939 and delivered in the blue and yellow 'pinstripe' scheme. The second twenty were equipped with steam lines for use on passenger trains. When Amtrak took over passenger service the FP45's went into the freight pool, receiving blue and yellow paint. The pinstripe paint scheme gave way to the blue and yellow warbonnet scheme by 1980. In the early 80's all 40 FP45's and 8 F45's were rebuilt at the San Bernadino shops. During the failed merger with Southern Pacific seven FP45's and twenty F45's received red and yellow 'Kodachrome' paint. On July 4th, 1989, FP45's 5992 and 5998 were released from the San Bernadino shops as numbers 101 and 102 in the newly revived red and silver 'Super Fleet' scheme with a large Santa Fe on the sides. Two F45's were wrecked and scrapped and one was sold to Wisconsin Central while the remaining six were donated to various railroad museums. Six F45's were sold to Wisconsin Central and the remaining units went to Morrison-Knudsen as lease units with one being assigned and painted for Utah Railway. Milwaukee Road was the other railroad that bought FP45's. Arriving in late 1968 for Hiawatha passenger service, they wore the UP yellow and gray scheme and were numbered 1-5. They differed from other F45's and FP45's as they did not have dynamic brakes installed. Even before Amtrak arrived these locomotives were re-assigned to freigt service between Chicago and the Twin Cities. Great Northern acquired fourteen F45's, numbered 427-440 and painted in the Big Sky Blue scheme, in 1969. The internal walkways were important to the GN given the winter weather on the line between the Twin Cities and Seattle. Crews no longer had to worry about ice and snow covered walkways like on their hood units. GN planned to run all of their main line freights with a F45 on the point. GN ordered an additional 12 units, which were delivered as Burlington Northern 6614-6625 in 1970. BN continued the F45 purchase in 1971 with 20 additional units numbered 6626-6645. The 46 F45's were regular power on the Chicago to West Coast trains over the former GN lines. Three of the original GN units were leased to Utah Railway for five years after being retired by BN. Two other units were sold to Susquehanna and three went first to Trancisco, then to Wisconsin and Southern, and finally to Montana Rail Link. The "Bismarck", at 42,343 tons was, for her time, the largest and most up-to-date battleship in the world (next to the "Hood"). On 24th May 1941, in a sea battle, together with the heavy cruiser "Prinz Eugen", at the pack ice frontier of Greenland, with a direct hit by the 5th salvo from her 380 mm guns she sank the largest British battle cruiser the "Hood". Launched on 14th February 1940 at the Blohm & Voss shipyard, Hamburg, together with the similar "Tirpitz" she was the most up-to-date and prestigious ship of the German navy. With a length of 251 m the top of the mast stood 52 m above the surface of the sea. She was protected by a total of 17,450 tonnes of steel armour plating. The newly designed heavy artillery fired 800 kg projectiles up to a range of 34.2 km and were capable of penetrating 350 mm armour at 21 km. Although the "Prinz Eugen" suffered no direct hits in the battle of 24th May, the "Bismarck", which was damaged in the bow, made for a French harbour. In the subsequent pursuit by British ships and aircraft, on 27th May 1941 a torpedo hit the rudder and after being hit by the superior numbers of the Home Fleet she was disabled and sunk in the Atlantic about 800 km off the French coast. Of the 2,092 men on board, 115 survived. Its shape and weight distribution make it very comfortable to hold for long periods of time. The soft rubber pads on the sides of the case add to the feeling of comfort while ensuring a secure grip. Even the SimpleScroll? programming interface (or roller) has been given a rubber coating so users can navigate menus and functions more precisely. All switches are of highest quality. Each control stick boasts four ball bearings per gimbal so movement is incredibly smooth. Dual Diversity Antenna The DX18 is the first Spektrum transmitter with a ?dual diversity? fixed antenna. Aside from being incredibly durable, it?s the first pro-class transmitter antenna to employ the use of both vertical and horizontal antenna arrays. The horizontal array is cleverly housed in the handle on the back of the transmitter and, with the vertical array, virtually eliminates the possibility of polarization black outs. Telemetry Functions All telemetry screens have been updated to support the latest line up of Spektrum telemetry sensors. The coolest new telemetry feature, however, is the data log. In addition to monitoring telemetry in real-time, users will be able to record (or log) telemetry data to the SD card for review after the flight. They can then view the logged data on an iPad or any other device equipped with the optional Spektrum STi.
